A Commitment to Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship
The Wabash College faculty are dedicated liberal arts teachers/scholars whose primary task is to engage students and in the process transform them. Interacting with faculty in the laboratory, seminar room, and studio, on the mall, over a meal, or on a class trip abroad, at a professional meeting, sporting event, or theater production, students are challenged and changed. Faculty promote high academic achievement, meaningful engagement with students, and direct encounter with different ideas, experiences, and people.
The education of undergraduate men, from the acquisition of knowledge and skills to the development of qualities of mind and character, is central to the mission of the College. The maintenance of an excellent faculty is crucial to that liberal arts mission. Wabash faculty embrace this mission.
For Wabash, a community of teacher-scholars sustains excellence. Effective teacher-scholars support the mission of the College through excellent and innovative teaching, continued scholarship and creative work, and leadership in the life of the community. Opportunities abound for shared research with students, interdisciplinary teaching and learning employing the resources of the Wabash Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts, and international study and travel via Wabash’s immersion courses.
Wabash offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and substantial support for professional travel and faculty development. In particular, Byron K. Trippet professorships provide a generous stipend for new faculty research in the first two years of teaching. The special William C. Placher Fund for Faculty Support enhances salaries and benefits.
