Meet the Wabash Cast of Jitney in Pittsburgh. Jitney is a play in two acts by August Wilson. The eighth in The Pittsburgh Cycle, this play is set in a worn-down gypsy cab station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in early autumn 1977. The Wabash cast of Jitney has been invited to present a staged reading at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Pittsburgh, PA. The free public reading is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 1st, at 7:00 PM. Wabash alumni and parents are invited to join Professor Dwight Watson and the cast at the reading and afterwards for a get-together at the Sharp Edge Bistro. The Visiting Artists Series will present author, Karen Russell, at 8 p.m., Monday, April 1, in Korb Classroom in the Fine Arts Center.
Russell’s debut novel, Swamplandia!, was chosen by The New York Times as one of the “Ten Best Books of 2011,” and was long-listed for The Orange Prize. Her latest novel, Vampires in the Lemon Grove, was published in January.
Seating for Visiting Artists Series events will be by general admission, though free tickets are required.
