WSFLA - Christopher Dabbs, '15: Hays Hall 104, 8:00PM - 11:00PM

The Wabash Society for the Furthering of the Liberal Arts will be hosting Christopher Dabbs, '15, and his presentation entitled "Why Do We Believe: Topics in Religion and Homeopathy". Abstract: Why are we so eager to believe, and how do we construct our beliefs? Whether we're speaking of philosophies, religions, or 'alternative' medicines, throughout human history there have been belief systems. This is a fact that we take in stride without asking 'why' or 'how'. I will attempt to answer these questions, not through subjective, philosophical means, but through the objective, biological, psychological, and other empirically measurable processes of belief construction. Disclaimer: this presentation is, in no way, an exhaustive explanation about the formation of beliefs. This is intended to be a simple compilation and introduction to the work of many people much more knowledgable than myself.
