Wabash Won't Let Cloudy Skies Dampen Homecoming

September 24, 2005

Students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of Wabash College turned out in force for 2005 Homecoming activities in spite of cloudy skies and threats of rain showers.

Things got under way when Sigma Chi beat out nine other fraternity pledge classes and a strong independent men's team to capture the Chapel Sing competition on Thursday morning. Click here to see photos of Chapel Sing.

On Friday, members of the National Association Board of Directors begin a series of meetings that continued into Saturday morning. Presiding over the NAWM is new president Jay Fisher ’66. The NAWM Board gathered with other alumni, faculty, and staff Friday night for the first ever BBQ & TWR event in Detchon Center. Click here to see photos from the NAWM Board meeting and BBQ & TWR.

First thing Saturday morning, history professor Rick Warner, classics professor Patrick Myers, and assistant to the dean of students Sherry Ross, along with Sphinx Club president Doug Berry, made the campus rounds as judges for this year's Homecoming decorations contest. Eight fraternities and the independent men put up decorations this year.

Phi Kappa Psi's decoration swept the entire length of the lawn in front of the house; the independents' entry stood nearly 30 feet tall; Delta Tau Delta debuted its Homecoming queen, who served as round "girl" in a "KO the Quakers" theme; and Sigma Chi's entry featured real-enough looking skulls and bones. Other Homecoming activities included:

• Ribbon Cutting of the new Phi Delta Theta fraternity house.  Click here for photo album.

• Sigma Chi celebrates 125 years at Wabash. Click here for photo album.
