Evansville

Although the thermometer registered record heat in Evansville on Oct. 6th, WABASH DAY was a cool success for the 18 men who gathered to help  "Holly’s House".

If there is one job that comes easy to a Wabash man, it’s cleaning up a big mess, and that was our assignment on Saturday.

"Holly’s House" is a  non-profit organization that will provide a single location for the Domestic and Sexual Violence and Child Abuse Departments of the Evansville Police Department in a home like setting instead of a police station interview room. The county donated a building for their use, but the interior was a total mess due to the deconstruction that was necessary prior to remodeling. There were piles of gravel and broken concrete, old cast iron pipe, trash and lots of dirt that had to be removed in order for the craftsman to begin the actual construction process.

Additionally the  white stone façade had not been cleaned in 40 years . "Team pressure washing" may become a new televised event for ESPN based on the competition between 2 teams of guys trying to work from each end of the building to meet in the middle. Two more crews worked on the sides of the building at the same time, washing off grime and graffiti that marred the exterior. Some minor landscaping work as a final touch and our task was done.

We had a very succesful day here in Evansville. One of our local TV stations covered the event for the evening news.
