Wabash matched Oberlin College shot for shot Saturday afternoon, but a goal in the 59th minute by the Yeomen gave the Little Giants their fifth one-goal loss in the last six matches.
The Little Giants took seven total shots with three shots on goal --- one each from Tommy Pecar, Phil Rosborough, and Diego Aliaga. Pecar and Allan Swan each had two shot attempts in the match, with one of Swan's tries just missing the upper corner of the net. Oberlin (7-8-1, 4-1-1 NCAC) took nine total shots with three shots on goal in the match. Matt Capozzi scored the game-winner off a pass from Oliver Miller-Farrel for the Yeomen.
"We can talk about luck or getting breaks, but at some point we have to look at our inability to finish plays," Head Coach Roberto Giannini said. "We played perhaps our best soccer of the season in the first 20 minutes of the match against Oberlin. We just don't consistently play at that level for 90 minutes. We had Oberlin on its heels. The Oberlin coach told me after the match our conference record doesn't reflect the way our team plays.
"The players are down and I'm down after another tough loss, but we will regroup and be ready to close out the season with two matches this week. We will show our pride and our resilience to finish the season."
Wabash (6-10-0, 0-6-0 NCAC) returns to action Wednesday night at Wittenberg before concluding the 2010 season at home Saturday versus Wooster at noon.
