The Wabash College Art Department presents the opening of an exhibit, Connectivity: Technology and the Natural World, featuring artists, John Douglas Powers and Claudia Esslinger. The exhibit opens Monday, September 8, with an opening reception from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Eric Dean Gallery in the Fine Arts Center.
In Array, Powers explores multiple mythologies, from classical antiquity to 8-bit video games, via mechanical sculptures and static objects. His work interfaces with nature through a dialogue about landscape and natural patterns.
Host, by Claudia Esslinger, uses customized electronic media to interpret our relationship to the natural world. How do current technologies redefine this relationship? How do our inventions impact our survival? Esslinger uses optical panels to obscure and reveal an abstracted vision of the sublime, while simultaneously using electronic controls to threaten its disappearance.
The exhibit continues through October 11. The exhibit is free and open to the public and handicap accessible. The hours for the Eric Dean Gallery are 9-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10-2 p.m. Saturday.
