Six Little Giants Competing at Nationals

Wabash’s best of the best will be on display this weekend, as six Little Giant student-athletes will compete for national championships

Five Wabash wrestlers – Riley, Conner, and Reece Lefever, along with Ethan Farmer and Devin Broukal – prepare for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Hershey, PA, while track and field’s Ronnie Posthauer heads to the NCAA Indoor Championships at Winston-Salem, NC.

The wrestlers enter the weekend ranked third nationally in both the NCAA Coaches’ and InterMat D-III Top-30 polls.

The Lefever brothers lead the way for the Little Giants, who all enter the meet ranked one or two in their respective weight classes, and carry a combined record of 51-2. The trio will wrestle together at nationals for the second straight season, and for the final time as teammates.

“Not a lot of brothers get to compete together, at least all at the same time, and we all have the chance to go out and win a national title together,” Reece said. “It’s pretty sweet.”

Riley is the defending national champion at 184 pounds and earned Most-Outstanding-Wrestler honors at the Midwest Regional February 28. Conner, the nation’s top-ranked wrestler at 174 pounds, has a 16-1 record after winning his second consecutive regional crown, while Reece sports a 19-1 overall record and is ranked second nationally at 157 pounds. Posthauer ’15 has a shot at a national championship for the fourth straight year. The Wabash hurdler has run in either the outdoor or indoor championships since his freshman year.

The senior should have added confidence for this year’s meet after holding the fastest time in Div. III in the nation earlier this year. See full story here.

“He just needs to stay focused and not change anything,” Coach Clyde Morgan said. “A lot of people were so excited he ran that time and led the nation for a couple of weeks and that time seeds him 8th all-time in Division III. Then he ran it again this past weekend.”
