What do the following members of the Wabash community - Coach Max Servies ’58…Trainer Bob Burkhardt…Ginny Hays H’98 – have in common? All were very attached to the 1980 undefeated Wabash football team and returned to campus Saturday evening after the Wittenberg game for a dinner and plenty of reminiscing.
The 1980 team, coached by Stan Parrish, went 8-0-1 – the tie score came in the Bell game, 22-22. Four of those eight victories that season were shutouts!
Those players returning to campus listened as Max Servies retold stories on the famous and not-so-famous highlights of their season. They also heard Bob Burkhardt compare 2005 to 1980 – complete with a comparison of the costs of stamps and gasoline then and now.
The group was smaller than hoped for but the stories were great and got even better as the night went on!
