Bachelor Photographer Wins State Press Awardby Howard Hewitt • December 8, 2005
Junior Brock Johnson won third place in the Hoosier State Press Association's collegiate division of its annual Better Newspapers Contest for a feature photo that appeared in The Bachelor.
The photo was taken during an art showing. The original cutline was: "Adam Hawkins '07 takes in the gallery of the multimedia work by James Ross '05 with the Vidoe Cornfield behind him."
The judges were impressed with Johnson's creativity.
"This in an intersting image from an assignment that could have produced a very mundane photo," the judges wrote in the HSPA program. " The photographer found some interesting light to use and made an eye-catching photograph."
Only 12 student journalists were honored at the program Dec. 3. The HSPA contest is primarily for Indiana's daily and weekly newspapers. Nearly 400 were in attendance for the annual awards in the Indianapolis Convention Center.
