While we are all still battling the global COVID-19 pandemic, we understand the need for volunteers by thousands of organizations throughout the country. The NAWM Affinity and Engagement Committee, working in conjunction with the Alumni and Parent Relations Office will work with any regional club or area to host a service project using volunteers from the local Wabash community. The target weekend is October 2-3, but we understand each project must fit into the timetable desired by the various organizations.
A list of cities/areas and corresponding project information is outlined below. Please use the approriate response method to volunteer or contact the Alumni and Parent Relations Office at alumni@wabash.edu or (765) 361-6360 with questions.

Saturday Dallas Heritage Village VOLUNTEER Via the Evite Announcement The Wabash Club of DFW has once again chosen Dallas Heritage Village for our service project. Project Description: Specific project details are not yet finalized, but will likely be outdoor/yard work Who Can Volunteer: Any Wabash alumni, spouse, partner, family member, or friend Tools Needed/Special Instructions: When you arrive, park in the main lot at the corner of Gano St and St. Paul (map). Post Event Gathering: We'll head to a nearby watering hole for nourishment, refreshment, and revelry. We'll pick the place on the day of the event. Remember to wear some Wabash gear! |

Project #1 Project #2 Given the ever changing COVID situation, the Indianapolis Association of Wabash Men wants to provide alumni and friends with different options for serving our community. As such, we are scheduling two events this fall. Details for the first (Crooked Creek Food Pantry - October 2) are shown below and the other, at Gleaners Food Bank, will be scheduled during the upcoming holiday season. Please consider volunteering at one of these two events. Project Description: We will be cleaning equipment, shelving and food storage containers – essentially a top to bottom fall clean-out. Cleaning will include: power washing of shelving units, trash equipment, grocery carts, and misc.; deep cleaning of concrete floor and tiled floors; cleaning and polishing of all stainless steel equipment; cleaning of interiors of refrigerators; moving and consolidating food inventory palleted stacks; and cleaning of our separate check-in/registration building (which we call the Coop). Time: Check-In starts at 8:30 a.m.; we will be working from approximately 8:45 a.m. until we finish (Estimated at Noon). This will depend on the number of volunteers we have. You can work for whatever time you can commit. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided. Tools Needed/Special Instructions: Wear clothes that can get dirty; please wear sturdy shoes and you may want to bring gloves. All cleaning supplies will be provided. This will be a rain or shine event as we can work both indoors and outside. If the weather cooperates, most of the work will be done outside. Masks will not be required but feel free to bring one for indoor work if you like. Remember to wear Wabash when you are volunteering! |

Saturday The Caring Place, Inc. The Wabash Club of NW Indiana will celebrate Wabash Day 2021 by supporting The Caring Place, Inc.in Valparaiso. Volunteers will host a cookout and pumpkin carving for the current residents. Project Description: Alumni and friends that volunteer will be grilling lunch for anyone currently at the shelter, and providing pumpkins for carving. Who Can Volunteer: Any Wabash alumni, spouse, partner, family member, or friend 18 years of age or older. Tools Needed/Special Instructions: Volunteers must RSVP in advance and will need to sign a confidentiality agreement as to the location of the facility and the identity of any residents. Additional safety protocols may apply. Remember to wear Wabash when you are volunteering! |
