Festivus Offers Friday Night Food, Games, Prizes

Wabash’s Career Services office is planning a Friday night winter festival/welcome back/Festivus. There is no charge for the games, activities, chili and prizes will be awarded to winners of the various competitions.

The Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies and W.A.R Council are helping sponsor the event.

"For the past three years, our office has hosted a "Welcome Back Chili Dinner" for students in recognition of their return to campus from winter break," said Career Services Director Scott Crawford. "We thought we’d mix it up a little by offering a chili competition for all members of the campus community. The idea of adding games and activities came up in hopes of increasing the number of participants and to open it up to the entire campus, families and friends."

The chili cook off helps provide the free chili for all those who attend. Students, faculty, and staff have been encouraged to enter a 4-quart pot of chili to help serve students and for the $75 prize.

The 7-10 p.m. Festivus will include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, euchre tournament, cornhole tournament, scrabble tournament, ping pong tourney, and Guitar Hero competitions. And of course, there will be the Festivus Pole!

Prizes will be awarded to winners of each competition as well as two random drawings made from all participants.

"The W.A.R. Council is proud to be a part of the annual event," Athletic Trainer and W.A.R. Advisor Mark Colston said. "This event promotes new engagement, fun activity, and ultimately the idea of acting responsibly, which is at the core of the overall mission of the W.A.R. Council."

The MXI membership is excited as well to be a part of the welcome back tradition. "It’s a great way for the entire campus to embrace other types of activities that you can also do without alcohol and come together and have a lot of fun," said Assistant MXI Director Amina McIntyre.
