Birrer, Rhinesmith Ready for NCAA Swim Championships

Wabash juniors David Birrer and Evan Rhinesmith have made the final cut to participate in the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships March 17-20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Birrer will participate in the 200-yard butterfly after posting a qualifying time of 1:53.30. His time was the 18th-best among participants chosen to compete in the championship meet. Rhinesmith will swim the 100-yard breaststroke. His season-best time of 57.13 was the 15th-best among championship qualifiers. Both events will take place in Friday's preliminaries, which begin at 10 a.m.

Birrer was under consideration in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.45. Rhinesmith's time of 2:08.55 in the 200 breaststroke was also among the top-26 in the nation, but did not make the final qualifying standards.

Teammates Adam Current and Eric Vaughn were also under consideration for the national meet, but did not make the final event listing.
