Serotiny

My work is equally inspired by nature and the Zen philosophy of Wabi Sabi.   Wabi Sabi is a Japanese aesthetic deeply rooted in Zen philosophy that seeks beauty in imperfection and mortality.  Environmental stimuli such as fire trigger serotinous plants to release their seeds.  This image of fire as life giver has driven me to create works that balance naturally occurring events with my creative process.
