Wabash Blanketed By First Winter Storm of 2010

A stiff, cold wind from the northwest made it a brisk day in Crawfordsville after a nasty winter storm dropped about six inches of snow on the Wabash Campus. Campus Services staff kept parking lots and sidewalks clear in spite of constantly falling and blowing snow.

Graduates before the early 1990s remember this building as Yandes Hall — and some remember it as Yandes Library. Now it's Detchon Center, but the "back door" to the arboretum is still the most beautiful (and photogenic) aspect of the building.

The intensity of the snowfall eased up a bit during the noon hour, which was about the same time the wind picked up and temperatures dropped. By 2 p.m., it was again snowing and blowing at full strength.

This little guy got pretty upset when we found out how he was staying warm and out of the snow — nestled in the branches of a tall spruce tree behind Forest Hall.

The wind whipped at up to 30 miles per hour across the College Mall.
