History of Christianity in Africa, Day Four, Album Two

a man shaking hands with another man

In the afternoon, the Wabash contingent (with 17 students, 2 professors, a staff member, Father Godfrey and the Franciscan brothers and friends, we've definitely become a contingent) re-visited the Starehe Boys Center and School in Nairobi, also our first stop on Pentecost Sunday. Here Professor Cook is greeted by the school's director, Matthew Kithyaka. The director told us the mission of the school, which seemed very much like the College's own mission statement.

We had the honor of meeting Joseph Gikubu, one of the founders of the school.

…and were honored guests at the afternoon celebration of the anniversary of the building of the school's chapel. Whenever we've visited a place, our hosts have asked Professor Cook to introduce the group, and he has done so in a way that always gets applause and gratitude from our hosts. Professor Cook noted that we had come back to the school to play soccer with the students, and he asked the Starehe students to "have mercy on us," words he would later, and happily, eat!

Rashaan Stephens ’13 has patiently sat through numerous masses and other Christian services, but finally had the chance to go to prayers in the mosque at Starehe.
