Knowledge Base - Apple Mail (Mac OS X) mail

Mac Mail account setup (for Leopard and Snow Leopard)

Begin by launching mail. If you are opening it for the first time, move on to Add Account. If you have opened Mail before, go to the preferences (Mail > Preferences) and select the Accounts section. Click the + (plus) symbol to create a new account.

Add Account

· Full Name: Type in your name as you want others to see

· Email Address: username@wabash.edu (your username)

· Password: This is your network password you use to connect to WABnet services (e-mail, AskWally, etc)

Incoming Mail Server

· Account Type: IMAP

· Description: Wabash

· Incoming Mail Server: outlook.wabash.edu

· User Name: username (everything prior to @wabash.edu)

· Password: Again, this is your network password

Incoming Mail Security (may not display)

· Use Secure Sockets Layer: Make sure the checkbox is not checked

· Authentication: Password

Outgoing Mail Server

· Description: This can be set to anything again or Wabash

· Outgoing Mail Server: outlook.wabash.edu

· Use Authentication: Make sure the box is checked

o User Name: username (everything prior to @wabash.edu)

o Password: Again, this is your network password

Outgoing Mail Security (may not display)

· Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Make sure this box is unchecked

· Authentication: Password

Account Summary

· Take account online: Leave this checked and click the Create button

From this point, select the newly created account and select ‘Edit SMTP Server List’ under ‘Outgoing Mail Server’. Click on the server you made for your Wabash e-mail and click the ‘Advanced’ tab.

· Use default ports: Make sure this button is selected

· Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Make sure this is unchecked

· Authentication: Password

o User Name: Your WABnet username (prior to @wabash.edu)

o Password: Your WABnet password

Back at the account settings, select the ‘Advanced’ tab.

· IMAP Path Prefix: This should be left blank

· Port: 143 (make sure ‘Use SSL’ is unchecked)

· Authentication: Password

Add’t Notes: By default, the SSL options will be left checked. If you are having problems receiving or sending mail, please check to make sure both have been disabled. When setting up your account, the initial connection to the Wabash email servers may take a long time. You can click the ‘Cancel’ button and then select ‘Continue’ if you’d like to proceed. It will just take longer the first time you click ‘Get Mail’.
