    Description:

What Does it Mean to Share the Road?

It is commonly claimed that cyclists and motorists share a space that is owned by all and no one, are governed by the same laws, and have the same rights and responsibilities. Yet cyclists have access to fewer public rights-of-way, often must comply with laws requiring they ride in a way that compromises their autonomy or safety, or are otherwise legally, politically, and economically discriminated against. Under conditions of institutional discrimination, can one still speak meaningfully of sharing the road?
