Illusionist Leland Faulkner at Wabash Monday Evening

Leland FaulknerThe Wabash College Visiting Artist Series presents illusionist Leland Faulkner’s World of Wonder. The performance will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, in Ball Theater in the Fine Arts Center.

Faulkner’s World of Wonder stimulates students’ imaginations through shadow-theater, illusion, and characters from around the world. Join Faulkner in exploring the source and properties of shadow, and the myriad possibilities in a single sheet of paper. Laugh at the classic humor of Nasruddin, the wise fool of the Muslim world, as he encounters an invisible chicken. Imagine a hat brim that is impossibly twisted into an infinite number of objects, marvel at paper butterflies that appear to dance and multiply, and explore the possibilities of light and shadow as Leland creates a menagerie of silhouettes with only his hands. Physical theater, classical conjuring, and creative storytelling create a performance that has been hailed internationally as a theatrical feast.

In addition, Faulkner will hold a theater workshop, Movement is the First Step, on Monday from 4:30-6 p.m. in Ball Theater. Tickets are not required for this workshop, which is open to all.

Theater workshops with Faulkner are exciting, fun, and full of learning. Faulkner shows actors how to create dynamic theater using nothing but their ability to move, their passion, and their imagination to create a great performance. Creating theater using physical techniques does not require expensive equipment, or special effects, it only require willing bodies, and bright imaginations.  In the process the students will develop interactive skills, and self-awareness that gives them tools to shape their lives. The workshop will include physical warm ups, mime technique, acting technique, theater games, structured improvisations, and ensemble work based on literature or other themes. It is fun, and highly focused work that has a lot of carryover benefits for actors of all ages.
