The Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies will present its annual Black History Program Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 8PM in Salter Hall in honor of black history month.
The program will focus on "Silent Assassins" in Black History: those figures that have had profound historical impacts but are not as well-known as Dr. Martin Luther King or Malcolm X. The presentations are separated into five categories: Wabash History; Entertainment; Politics; Sports; and Education. Historical figures include Wabash professor Peter Frederick, novelist James Baldwin, and Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm.
Derrin Slack, Deonte Singefield, and other active members of the MXI have also organized a skit and musical performances for the night.
The Black History Program will be presented by the Malcolm X Institute’s new associate class under the direction of Associate Chair and sophomore Charles Goodman, Lambda Chi Alpha.
"I believe people should come out to this year’s Black History Program because this year’s theme is the Silent Assassins of Black History," Goodman said. "We are trying to focus on individuals who may not necessarily be well known in the general eye of the public but have made just as big of an impact in black history. The program will be very informative and should be very enjoyable at the same time."
