Bob Knight To Speak at Wabash College

Coach Bob Knight will speak at Wabash College on Sunday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Chadwick Court.
Legendary men's basketball coach Bob Knight will be speaking at Wabash College on Sunday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Chadwick Court.

Knight is among the youngest head coaches to have won 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800 career games. He is the only coach to have reached 900 wins. When he was 62-years old, Coach Knight became the youngest of the four coaches ever to reach the milestone of 800 victories.

Knight earned his 880th career win at Texas Tech on January 1, 2007 with a Red Raider win over New Mexico (70-68) to established the standard for career NCAA wins.

A native of Orrville, Ohio, Knight is a graduate of Ohio State where he was a member of the Buckeye hardwood teams that won Big Ten titles in 1960, 1961, and 1962 and the NCAA Championship in 1960 while posting an overall record of 78-6.

After graduating with a degree in History and Government, Knight was an assistant coach at Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) High School one year before entering the U.S. Army where he was assigned to assist Coach Tates Locke at West Point. When Locke became head coach at Miami (Ohio) University in 1965, Knight, then only 24, was named to succeed him and became the youngest Varsity Coach in major collegiate history.

Knight is the father of two sons. Tim, a 1986 graduate of Stanford University, serves Texas Tech as an Assistant Athletic Director/Special Projects. Pat, who played for him at IU from 1991-95, is now the head coach at Texas Tech. Bob Knight and his wife, Karen, were married in 1988.

Coach Knight completed his coaching career at Texas Tech. He coached for six seasons at Army, 29 years at Indiana University, and six-and-a-half seasons at the helm of the Texas Tech Red Raider program.

The appearance is part of Coach Knight's lecture series, which will  continue on college campuses throughout the country. Included in his visit to Wabash will be a special "meet & greet session" at 6:30 PM in the Allen Center classroom followed by the lecture in Chadwick Court at 7:30 p.m.

All current Wabash students will be admitted free with ID and the public — including Wabash College faculty and staff — will be invited to purchase tickets at the door beginning at 6 p.m. the night of the lecture. Tickets are $30 and will also be sold in advance at the Wabash Bookstore beginning September 1. The Wabash Bookstore is located in the basement of the Sparks Center and is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Coach Knight has sold out all previous engagements, therefore the public is encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. All tickets will be general admission with no reserved seating. Coach Knight's lecture is sponsored by the Wabash College Student Senate.
