About the Original Work:

Title: 29 Déserts (1954) by Edgard Varèse

Composer: Edgard Varèse

Notes: The first work to combine a live orchestra and a magnetic tape part in live performance. Although the composer intentionally segregated the electronic sounds from the live orchestra—the tape part consisted of interludes between orchestral parts—both tape and instrumental parts were composed to complement and contrast with one another, making the whole an extraordinary exploration of unique sonic textures.
