ENG 109 World Literature in Translation
The course will focus on literature in translation from Europe, Japan,
India, and Mexico from the seventh through the seventeenth centuries.
Thematically, the course will address conquest, spirituality, and love
with the aim of cultivating the student’s ability to consider critically
class, gender, religion, and the idea of the “other” in medieval Europe
and beyond. Texts will include Beowulf, The Tale of the Genji
, Dante’s Inferno and the poetry of Rumi. This course is
offered in the spring semester.
