Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Bookstore Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the efficient operation of Wabash College's bookstore and online store. This position will focus on managing in-store and backstock inventory, fulfilling online orders, and supporting customer service. The Bookstore Assistant will also be responsible for managing promotions, training student workers, and maintaining an organized, effective store environment. Some evening and weekend work may be required for special events.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Inventory Management: Assist with managing in-store inventory, checking what needs to be restocked, and replenishing stock from the back. Handle product replacements when items run out, and move low-selling products to the clearance section.
  • Receiving and Inventory Accuracy: Receive and count new deliveries, cross-checking packing slips with orders. Use inventory manage software to process new inventory and ensure items scan properly with accurate UPCs. Report any issues, damaged products, or discrepancies.
  • Inventory Room Organization: Maintain the inventory room, ensuring shelves are organized, boxes are cleared out, and stock is easy to locate.
  • Online Store Management: Oversee the online store, fulfilling orders, responding to customer inquiries, and ensuring timely shipping through UPS. For drop-ship items, create purchase orders and communicate the process with customers.
  • Social Media and Website Management: Manage the bookstore’s social media presence on platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Post relevant content such as promotions, new items, and event-related posts. Ensure the store website is up-to-date, with accurate product listings, images, and promotions.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service both in-store and online. This includes assisting customers with orders and resolving any issues.
  • Student Worker Training: Assist with training student workers, teaching specific tasks, delegating responsibilities, and maintaining a smooth workflow.
  • Product Promotions: Assist in creating and executing item promotions and deals for special events, such as home football games, alumni weekends, and student activities.

Qualifications

 

  • 1-3 years of experience in retail management, customer service, or inventory control. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word) and basic knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work well in a team.
  • Experience in e-commerce platforms, ERP systems, or other retail management tools is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • A self-starter with a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to problem-solve in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products including Windows, Excel, Word, and related programs is preferred.
