In December when "Thinking About Theater and Film: Essays by Wabash College Alumni" was published, a new tradition was born. The journal of thoughtful essays is believed to be the first ever published by alumni of the College.
"Bringing theater alumni together via an occasional journal has been an idea the Theater Department has hoped to bring to fruition for a long time," says Professor James Fisher, who edited the volume. "This first one—I believe the first-ever all-alumni publication Wabash College has produced—is devoted to theater and film history and dramatic literature.
Alumni who contributed to the journal include Aaron Childress ’02, David Schulz ’88, Marcus Doshi ’97, Brian Jones ’82, Roy Sexton ’95, Kaizaad Navroze Kotwal ’91, and Michael Abbott ’85. Abbott is the chair of the College's Theater Department. The journal also includes one essay from a current senior, Aaron Parks, as well as an introduction and brief history of the department from Fisher.
"Having worked closely with these eight contributors in classes and theater productions, I am especially delighted to see this volume in print and to see these men continuing to pursue their interests in theater and film history despite very active and busy lives," says Fisher. "Contributing their energies to this volume is just another way among the many ways Wabash alumni stay involved in the life of the college. Needless to say, the Theater Department is proud of them all."
Essays cover the full breadth of interests of Wabash theater alumni, from Shakespeare to Spielberg, and from Edward Gordon Craig to Woody Allen.
Fisher hopes to spearhead another alumni theater journal in the future which will focus on original and creative work.
