A small, yet mighty, contingent of Wallies spent the morning volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in Manhattan. During the tour of the impressive facility, we learned about the mission of the Ronald McDonald House and the families the organization serves. In New York, the RMH is located nearby Memorial Sloan-Kettering, where many of the RMH guests receive medical care.
After the tour, we dug in to help with cleaning and organizing the main conference room and four of the kitchen facilities. The wide variety of cabinet sizes in the kitchen, we learned, create a set of popular hiding places for the children during games of hide-and-seek. Our tasks were simple-- get the conference room organized for a board meeting, and make sure the kitchen cabinets were cleaned and disinfected for the kids. After lots of hauling and scrubbing, we had things looking spic-and-span. We were grateful to have met several of the children living at the RMH during our project, and happy to have done our small part to help this wonderful organization.
