Fall break isn’t a time to go home and catch up on sleep for many Wabash students. Unique immersion learning opportunities are just a part of a not-so-quiet weekend.
Each fall Career Services sponsors a trip to New York City to learn about business, meet with alums, and see the city. A new trip this year doesn’t go as far but offers students interested in business finance an unique opportunity to interact with very successful Wabash graduates working in the business field.
The Career Services trip set off Wednesday morning for the Big Apple. The students will meet with a variety of businesses and alums.
The schedule includes: Banc of America/Merrill Lynch, Jay Allen ’79; Deutsche Bank, Sava Kobilarov ’01; Jefferies & Company, Nick Su ’12, Troy Clark ’99; Thomson-Reuters, Ted Zimmer ’09; Wasabi Rabbit, Tim Lyons ’91; Deloitte, Kyle Coffey ’06; and Fox News, Josh Bellis ’08. The event also has great networking opportunities: Pars Bar and Grill, Greg Jania ’93, and an Alumni/Student Networking dinner Friday night featuring many New York area alums.
The students get Saturday morning to explore the city on their own.
The newest fall immersion experience is for students interested in finance. Dr. Frank Howland and Betsy Knott have put together a Wednesday night through Saturday afternoon experience that will immerse the Wabash men in real-world finance careers.
The Wednesday night session on campus features finance executives from RR Donnelly, Heritage Products, Nucor Steel, Acuity Brands and the Executive Director of the Montgomery County Economic Development Corp. The group then moves to Indianapolis for two days and nights. Thursday’s program includes presentations from JP Morgan/Chase Bank and Farm Credit Services.

Friday is really a big day starting off at Lilly with five Wabash graduates working in finance for the iconic pharmaceutical company. Brian Edelman ’82, Dave Lewis ’81, Chad Hobson ’04, Brian Clem ’04, and Terrence Lyons ’87 will talk about their roles in finance at Lilly.
Friday afternoon will includea visit with alums working at ACES Power.
The students will have presentations Saturday morning judged by three graduates in business finance. Brad Armstrong ’09 of Milliman, Steve Stambaugh ‘08, Eli Lilly, and Andy Deig ‘08, Lilly, will review the students work.
Little Giants sports teams work through the break as well. Cross country will run at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitation, Soccer travels to Kenyon for a 3:30 p.m. match, and the undefeated Little Giant football team welcomes Kenyon College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
