Family Day 2013 attracted families of our students from as far away as Oregon. The program for the day was specifically geared towards advising parents how their sons could make the most of their Wabash educational opportunity.
The morning started with breakfast and a welcome by the President of the College, Gregory D. Hess. He explained his focus points for the coming months to the parents and spent time answering their questions.
The Careers Session provided helpful, insider tips on the areas of career planning and exploration with the staff at the Schroeder Center for Career Development. Director Scott Crawford and Assistant Director James Jeffries walked families through many of the elements of their four-year plan for careers.
The Financial Aid session started with a reminder that financial aid forms submission is a four-year approach, not “one and done” in the freshman year. Director Heidi Carl and Associate Director (and Wabash Mom) walked families through the required document and explained that changing family financial situations should always be brought to the attention of the staff in their office.
Professor Rick Warner gave an overview of several opportunities for off-campus study at home and abroad. Professor Warner’s own experiences in leading immersion learning experiences gave the attendees a heightened sense of the powerful impact these opportunities have on the students and their views of the world.
Associate Dean for Advancement Joe Klen and Associate Director Of Admissions Chip Timmons outlined simple ways Wabash families could make a difference at Wabash, now and in the future. Joe Klen talked of the power of investing in Wabash, just as many parents have done before. Chip Timmons explained how parents could be a powerful voice to others who are exploring their college options.
The morning sessions concluded with a questions and answer period with Dean of the College Gary Phillips, CFO Larry Griffith, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Steve Klein, and Associated Dean of Students Will Oprisko.
All in all, it was a fun and informative morning for Wabash parents and families.
