Professor Jeff Drury had a great idea for his Rhetoric 201 class, a course that focuses on the process of constructing, analyzing, and evaluating public arguments. Professor Drury decided to have the students form into teams and address a real world opportunity at Wabash.
That opportunity came in the form of planning an event that would focus on a new program just unveiled by the college’s Alumni and Parent Relations Office. The new program, called Wabash 4-LIFE, has been developed to communicate and educate our young men on the lifelong relationship of Wabash men to the college and to each other. Professor Drury turned to Associate Director of Alumni and Parent Relations Mike Warren ’93 to develop the concept. The six student teams each envisioned an event that would use at its core the theme of getting alumni and students together to discuss what Wabash means to them.
Drury and Warren took it one step farther than simply a class presentation. They decided they needed these presentations to be given in front of an audience that understands Wabash 4-LIFE, the Sons of Wabash. This group provided a great sounding board for the presentations. Also listening to the presentation were other members of the college’s Advancement Office led by Associate Dean of Advancement Joe Klen ’97.
All of the presentations were well done and have potential. The Advancement team was so impressed they selected an event to be included in next fall’s alumni programming. We won’t give away which one, but look for something special around the timing of Wabash’s first football game in 2014.
