William Placher’s first book, A History of Christian Theology, was published in 1983. It quickly became a favorite text in classes across the country in colleges and seminaries. Most books adapted for classroom use frequently go through multiple editions as times change and needs evolve. But Placher’s stayed in its original form for 30 years. Now a new edition has appeared, over five years after his death.
Derek Nelson, Associate Professor of Religion at Wabash and a former student of Placher’s, oversaw the updates and additions to the book. It includes an introductory essay that interprets the role that the history of theology played in Placher’s own theological writings. New chapters have been added and many portions of the book have been updated to make use of advances in scholarship.
The book is available at the Wabash College Bookstore and at Amazon. The Bookstore can be reached at 765-361-6271. The link for Amazon is: http://www.amazon.com/History-Christian-Theology-Second-Edition/dp/0664239358
