Staff Profile - Heidi Carl

Heidi Carl - Despite the busiest time of the year for the Financial Aid Team she is always smiling!

Name: Heidi Carl

Background:  I grew up in Homer Michigan, which is about 8 miles south of Albion Michigan, in south-central Michigan. I did both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Western Michigan University. I was a Communications major as an undergraduate and my Master’s degree is in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Higher Education Administration. I moved to Indiana in 1995 to take a job with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis and that is where I met my wife, Dusty. Dusty and I have been together since 1996 but just made it official and married in December of 2014. We live in Brownsburg Indiana and together we take care of my mom, who lived with us until recently when she started residing at Brownsburg Meadows Nursing Home. My sister also lives locally and helps with taking care of my mom as well.

Department and specialty at Wabash:  I work in the Enrollment Management division of the college and I am the Director of Financial Aid.

Special involvement at Wabash:  I’m still getting my feet wet at Wabash but I do serve our division as one of the members of our social and morale committee. I’m always first in line to gather the team and plan a good party!

Favorite part of Wabash:  My favorite part of Wabash is the dedicated staff team that I am honored to work with in the enrollment management division. Everyone is focused on delivering the best possible service to the students and families we serve and helping them learn all the wonderful benefits of a Wabash education. Our staff team is a hard-working, fun group of individuals.

Favorite place on the campus:  The “living rooms” of Trippet Hall. That’s what I call the interview rooms on the main floor of Trippet where we meet with students and their parents and we answer all their questions about Wabash College. I like that we welcome families into our “living room” to get to know us better and at the same time we learn more about the student and his family.

Favorite food:  Well, being the daughter of a baker my favorite food is cookies. My mom owned a small bakery in Michigan for over 20 years and I have great memories of all of her sweet treats, but I’m especially fond of cookies. I rarely meet a cookie I don’t like.

Something most people don’t know about you:  Most people don’t know that I take after my mom and I’m a pretty good baker myself; often baking goodies for family and friends for special occasions. My dream job would be to one day follow in my mom’s footsteps and start a bakery/café of my own.
