Progress continues on the new Wabash College Residence Life Complex, as the two townhomes will be available for students when they return to campus this fall.
It marks the first phase in what is a $23 million commitment to new housing units bringing 136 new beds to the 60-acre wooded campus. The Residential Life District will include three different building types and six living unit configurations, providing Wabash students flexibility in their living choices — from single rooms to six-man townhome apartments.
“As construction continues, students become more and more excited because they can better visualize themselves living in one of the new townhomes, halls, or lodges,” said Associate Dean of Students Marc Welch. “I’m thrilled with not only the new housing and its multiple options, but its overt commitment and reminder to all that we’re a residential college for men.”
Former AT&T Chairman and CEO Robert Allen ’57 and wife, Elizabeth, recently made a $2 million gift to the Fund for Student Housing at Wabash and challenged other alumni and friends to contribute to the fund-raising effort as well by offering an additional $2 million challenge that will match other gifts to the project dollar-for-dollar.

The complex, located along the west side of campus on Crawford Street includes increased parking and links to the main campus through walkways and landscaping.
Construction on the townhomes is slated to be completed in August, while the two 38-bed halls and two 16-bed lodges will come online during the 2015-16 academic year.
Once the Residence Life Complex construction is complete, the College will renovate Martindale Hall, the largest independent men’s residence hall on campus. The revamped Martindale Hall will boast about 80 beds in modern living arrangements and is scheduled to reopen in time for the 2016-17 academic year.
