Cheryl Everett, Adjunct Instructor of Piano at Wabash College and Reginald Rodgers, Professor of Piano at Anderson University will play a two piano concert at 4 p.m., Sunday, October 25 in Salter Concert Hall, in the Fine Arts Center.
The program is free and open to the public. It is designed to appeal to families with children.
After the opening piece Hoe-Down from the “Rodeo” suite by Aaron Copland, the piano duo will play The Carnival of the Animals, a musical suite of fourteen movements by French romantic composer Camille Saint-Saens. James Cherry, Wabash College Associate Professor of Theater, will read the Ogden Nash poetry for each movement and Elizabeth Morton, Associate Professor of Art History at Wabash, has selected zoological slides during the presentation.
After a brief intermission the piano duo will perform Sir Richard Rodney Bennett’s Four Piece Suite. The movements of this suite are samba triste, country blues, ragtime waltz, and finale (hard rock). Bennett was an English composer of film and television.
Concluding the concert is the Carmen Fantasy arranged by Abram Chasins. Chasins was for many years on the piano faculty of the Curtis Institute. He was a radio personality and wrote over 100 compositions mostly for piano or duo piano.
In addition to her collegiate responsibilities at Wabash College, Cheryl Everett has taught piano lessons in the Crawfordsville community for 35 years. She is recognized as a nationally certified teacher of music by the Music Teachers National Organization and in 1999 was honored as the Indiana Music Teachers’ Association “Teacher of the Year.” She is the coordinator of the Young Hoosier State Piano Competition for students ages 5-22. This competition sponsored by the Indiana State Fair and Piano Solutions had over 500 student participants from all areas of Indiana in 2015. Ms. Everett has been a church organist for 50 years currently serving at Christ United Methodist Church in Crawfordsville.
Dr. Reginald Rodgers joined the piano faculty at Anderson University in 1983. Over the years he has helped young pianists to achieve success in competition, to prepare for graduate study and to begin careers of their own. His recent activities have included faculty recital performances at Anderson University, judging competitions for the Lafayette Symphony, Ball State University, and Young Hoosier State Piano Competition. Since 1996 he has served as pianist at Pendleton First United Methodist Church in Pendleton, IN.
