Preparing for Commencement
Tuesday, April 5
11:10 am: Briefing in Pioneer Chapel
REQUIRED—Seniors Must Attend
All graduating seniors are required to attend a briefing about Commencement and senior check-out.
Wednesday, April 13 through Friday, May 6
Check-Out Card Pick Up - Pick up your check-out card from Terri Fyffe in the Business Office in Center Hall. Each senior must return his completed forms and check-out card to the Deans’ Office no later than Wednesday, May 11, 2016. Students need to be aware of the policy regarding fulfillment of Senior Requirements: Candidates for the degree who fail to complete all of these requirements in a timely fashion will not be allowed to participate in Commencement, nor will their transcripts be released.
Commencement Weekend Schedule of Events
Friday, May 13
8 am - 5 pm: Senior Art Exhibition in the Eric Dean Gallery, Fine Arts Center. Graduating senior art majors Zachary Boren, Robert Carter, Shariff Harrison, James Kennedy, Roy Taylor, and Aren Peterson will display their work.
Saturday, May 14
8 am: Deans’ Senior Breakfast in Knowling Fieldhouse, Allen Athletics Center
REQUIRED—Seniors Must Attend
Graduating seniors and members of the faculty are invited to breakfast with Deans Scott Feller and Mike Raters ’85. The starting time will be strictly observed, and dress for the breakfast is collared shirt and slacks.
9 am: Commencement Rehearsal in Pioneer Chapel
REQUIRED—Seniors Must Attend
Seniors will move directly from the Deans’ Breakfast to the rehearsal. The starting time will be strictly observed.
Saturday events for families of seniors, alumni, and other visitors:
8 am - 5 pm: Senior Art Exhibition in the Eric Dean Gallery, Fine Arts Center

8 am - 12 pm: Fitness Center Open, Allen Athletics and Recreation Center
10 am - 4 pm: Bookstore Open, Lower Level of the Frank Hugh Sparks Center
11:45 am: SAAC Senior Athletes Honor Luncheon in Knowling Field, Allen Athletics and Recreation Center
All senior student-athletes are invited to celebrate.
2:30 pm: Phi Beta Kappa Initiation in Lovell Lecture Room, Baxter Hall
4 pm - 5:30 pm: President’s Reception at the Elston Homestead, 400 East Pike Street
Join President and Mrs. Hess for a celebration in honor of the Class of 2016 and their families.
Sunday, May 15
Seniors and Faculty must arrive at 10:30 am for Baccalaureate and 2:00 pm for Commencement. It takes 30 minutes to line up seniors by name. Be on time and quickly find your place. Seniors march in alphabetical order—led by the two Commencement speakers and followed by the men who are receiving academic honors (also in alphabetical order). At the head of the procession is Faculty Marshal James Cherry, who will direct the seating.
10:30 am: Formation of the Academic Procession for Baccalaureate on the sidewalk east of Center Hall (In the event of rain, the procession will form in Baxter Hall.)
11 am: Baccalaureate Chapel in Pioneer Chapel
The Baccalaureate sermon will be given by Father Vincent Druding (Wabash Class of 1999), Church of the Assumption, Peekskill, NY.
12 pm: Commencement Buffet in Knowling Fieldhouse, Allen Athletics Center
A buffet lunch will be served at a cost of $15 for graduating seniors and their families.
12 pm - 2:30 pm: Bookstore Open, Lower Level of the Frank Hugh Sparks Center
1:30 pm: Legacy Photographs on the sidewalk east of Center Hall
Seniors who are legacies are invited to have their picture taken with family members at no charge. (In the event of rain, photos will be taken in the Student Lounge of the Allen Center, across from the Fitness Center.)
2 pm: Formation of the Academic Procession for Commencement on the sidewalk east of Center Hall (In the event of rain, the procession will form in the lobby of the Allen Athletics Center.)
2:30 pm: 178th Commencement Ceremony on the Wabash College Mall (In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in Chadwick Court.) Complimentary photographs will be taken of your son as he receives his diploma and will be mailed to parents after Commencement.
3:30 pm: Reception for the Class of 2016 in the Great Hall, Frank Hugh Sparks Center
President and Mrs. Hess will host a reception in honor of the Wabash College Class of 2016.
