The Wabash swimming and diving participated in the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Relays on Saturday, earning a fourth-place finish.
The Little Giant team of Ben Long (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville), Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community), Gary Mineart (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville), and Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) set a Wabash record while finishing sixth in the 500 crescendo relay. The four swimmers completed the event in 4:33.50. Little Giant divers Jacob Goldstein (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) and Nick Roersma (Grand Rapids, MI/Northview) also set a record in the 3-meter diving relay. The two combined for 386.10 points to finish third in the event. Goldstein had 202.60 points, while Roersma added 183.50. The pair also combined to take third in the 1-meter diving event, scoring 415.70 points.
The team of R.J. Morgan (Indianapolis, IN/North Central, Jon-Myckle Price (Logansports, IN/Logansport), Long, and Craig Haupert (Cedar Lake, IN/Lowell) took fourth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.16. Morgan combined with Laurel Dean Fox (Aurora, IN/South Dearborn), Findley, and Jay Totten (Brunswick, GA/Glynn Academy) to take fourth in the 200 backstroke relay, finishing in 1:44.13. The 200 breaststroke team of Haupert, Findley, John Essex (Plainfield, IN/Plainfield), and Price earned fourth with a time of 1:56.73.
The Little Giants captured three third-place finishes in the final four events of the meet. The 200 butterfly team of Haupert, Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), Totten, and Long came home in 1:39.36 to take third. Collins, Sean Gallagher (Lawrence, KS/Freestate), and Mineart were third in the 1500 freestyle relay, finishing in 15:39.68. The 400 IM relay team of Morgan, Price, Fox, and Haupert captured third after finishing in 3:50.74.
The final event, the 200 freestyle relay, saw the Wabash team of Long, Findley, Peacock, and Morgan take sixth with a time of 1:30.66.
"A number of team members had outstanding individual performances, including some lifetime bests," said coach Gail Pebworth. "We had some encouraging improvements from the Red-White meet. Now we can look forward to the dual meet against the University of Chicago at Notre Dame this Friday."
