The Wabash College Art Department presents the opening of, Dirt & Flowers: and other things we eat and breathe: works by Charles A. Gick. The exhibit debuts with an opening reception from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, in the Fine Art Center’s Eric Dean Gallery.
In Dirt & Flowers: and other things we eat and breathe, Gick’s poetic works of art confront and examine humanity’s often tenuous, physical, intellectual, and emotional relationship with art, nature and science. His paintings, photography, sculpture, video, and installation art are inspired by the brief experiences found in the environment, such as a gust of wind, a violent storm, or the simple passing of a cloud. Gick’s art is presented as an element of nature.
A Professor of Art in the Department of Art and Design in the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts at Purdue University, Gick teaches painting, drawing, and installation art. He holds a MFA from Northwestern University and a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. An interdisciplinary artist, he combines video, performance, painting, photography and assemblage, and his work continues to receive both national and international recognition.
The exhibit continues through Dec. 10. The exhibit is free and open to the public and is handicap accessible. The hours for the Eric Dean Gallery are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit will be closed during Thanksgiving recess, Nov. 19-27.
