Wabash College Glee Club and Chatham College Choir To Join Forces for Concert

Crawfordsville, Ind. — The Wabash College Glee Club will join forces with the Chatham College Choir for a concert of choral music at the Lewis S. Salter Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center on the Wabash College campus. The concert will take place on Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m. This year is a special occasion because it marks the 20th anniversary of joint concerts by the men of Wabash and the women of Chatham.

The Chatham College Choir, under the direction of Margaret Moss Mehl, will present sacred selections by Mendelssohn and Fauré, folk songs from Africa and North America, and a set of lighter Italian songs.

The Wabash College Glee Club, under the direction of Larry Bennett, will offer sacred songs by Praetorius and Tallis, love songs from the Renaissance to the present day, and spirituals, with solos by Walter Keeley, Philip Goldstein, and Caleb Ishman.

The Chatham College Choir and the Wabash Glee Club will join together for a small ensemble. The Hemidemisemiquavers from Chatham and the T-Tones from Wabash promise to regale the audience with an array of pop and jazz arrangements.

A special performance will feature Wabash College’s voice instructor, mezzo soprano Mitizi Westra, in a rendition of the lush romantic Alto Rhapsody by Johannes Brahms, supported by the Wabash College Glee Club.

The two college choral groups will join forces for performances of a pair of a cappella English folksongs. As usual, the concert will close with the singing of the alma maters.

The accompanist for the Chatham College Choir is Carolyn Slaugh, and the accompanist for the Wabash College Glee Club is Cheryl Everett.

The concert is free and open to the public. Everyone is invited.
