Wabash College’s Music Department invites you to a spring concert given by the Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra will present its concert at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 23, in Salter Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center.
Under the direction of Alfred Abel, the concert will open with one of Felix Mendelssohn’s most renowned orchestral works, Hebrides (or Fingal's Cave) Overture. Based on the composer’s visit to these stormy isles off the coast of Great Britain, this music is full of driving rain, crashing waves, the relentless tides and the calm sea at sunset. The first half will close with a youthful work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Divertimento #8 in F Major, K. 213. Featuring Wabash College’s winds and brass, this work represents chamber collaboration at its finest. The last half of the program features Antonin Dvorak’s most famous work, the immemorial "New World" Symphony #9 in E minor.
The Chamber Orchestra draws its members not only from the Wabash student body, but also from musicians on the faculty and staff, along with professional and amateur musicians from the surrounding area.
The concert is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to come and introduce the kids to wonderful and exciting music in a welcoming atmosphere.
