Indianapolis Opera Ensemble to Perform at Wabash College

Crawfordsville, Ind. — The Indianapolis Opera Ensemble will present their concert, Opera a la Carte, in Salter Hall of the Fine Arts Building of Wabash College on Wednesday, April 2 at 4:15 p.m.

The Indianapolis Opera Ensemble is the company’s resident artist program. The ensemble travels throughout Indiana and neighboring states with a variety of entertaining and educational programs for children and adults. The Ensemble reaches more than 56,000 students each year with fully staged children’s operas, performances of popular opera scenes, and interactive residencies.

This concert is in it third year and is sponsored by a Wabash College alumnus. The program is an interactive performance that has been a very effective tool in dispelling myths that opera is boring or hard to understand. The program contains discussions of voice types, careers in music, opera as an art form, and as a vocation. The audience will hear excerpts from both well known and lesser-known opera works as the singers explain the plot lines and contest for each aria, duet, trio, and ensemble piece. The audience experience will be interactive and will involve sampling music from Mozart to Broadway and recognizing melodies that have been used in the media and recycled in popular tunes today.

The program is free and open to the public.
