Wabash College rolled out the welcome mat for alumni and friends returning to campus for Homecoming Weekend, which ran from Sept. 26th to the 28th and featured a home football game against Denison.
The festivities began on Thursday in front of Pioneer Chapel with Chapel Sing, a cherished rite of passage for Wabash students. Members of the Class of 2023 were tested on their knowledge of the lyrics to “Old Wabash,” one of the nation’s longest fight songs.
Thursday evening featured the 40th LaFollete Lecture, an annual lecture given by an honored faculty member who is charged with addressing the relation or his or her special discipline to the humanities broadly conceived. This year’s lecturer was Associate Professor of Music James Makubuya with his talk, entitled Ethnomusicology: Its Role, Power, and Significance in the Humanities.
On Friday, The College celebrated the publication of a long-awaited book, Some Little Giants: A Brief Wabash College Athletics History, 1866-2017, written by alumnus and long-time athletics director Max Servies '58. The reception included remarks from Servies and editor David Phillips H'83.
That same evening, Wabash Swimming and Diving hosted their Alumni Meet in the College’s Natatorium.
Alumni jumped to the forefront on Saturday with a multitude of activities. Primary among them is Homecoming Alumni Chapel in Pioneer Chapel, where the National Association of Wabash Men honored the following recipients with awards:

Saturday, the Soccer team faced off at Fischer Field against Wooster defeating the Scots 3-0.
The afternoon was rounded out by the Homecoming Luncheon, the football team’s showdown against Denison, and the sh'OUT reception. The Little Giants won their home opener 34-20.
The festivities will conclude with the Glee Club's annual Homecoming Concert in the Fine Arts’ Salter Hall. The concert will feature plenty of Glee Club favorites and new pieces, and is free and open to the public.
