Wabash College Music Department to Present Homecoming Concert

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Wabash College Music Department will open its concert season on Saturday evening, October 11, at 8:00 p.m. in Salter Hall in the Fine Arts Center. The concert, in conjunction with Wabash’s Homecoming, will feature a festive program of vocal and instrumental music.

The Wabash College Glee Club, Brass Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Wamidan (Wabash Musicians, Instrumentalists, and Dancers) will present an evening of music, jazz, and dancing.

The Glee Club, under the direction of Lawrence Bennett, will sing Jing-ga-lye-ya by the young Canadian composer Bruce Sled; an arrangement of Red River Valley with harmonica accompaniment played by senior Robert Giesting; and the spiritual Swing Down, Chariot in an arrangement by André Thomas. They will finish the program with Old Wabash and the Alma Mater.

The Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Judd Danby, will perform Sextet in A Major: I. Animato by F. H. Mc Kay; Maxwell's Silver Hammer by John Lennon and Paul McCartney; and Overture to Cadmus et Hermione by Jean Baptiste Lully.

The Jazz Band, under the direction of Steve Robinett, will perform James Hanley’s Back Home Again In Indiana; George Gershwin’s ‘Swonderful; and Joe Gordon’s In the Mood.

Wamidan, under the direction of James Makubuya, will perform Bolino, Bolino, an Alur Folk song, and Aije, an Acholi Harvest dance.
