Cold Shooting Haunts Wabash in Loss to DePauw

Another tough night shooting from the field plagued the Wabash basketball team in a 71-46 loss to the DePauw Tigers on Wednesday night at Chadwick Court.

The Little Giants went 15-of-60 from the field for 25-percent. Wabash connected on only four three-point shots (4-of-24 for 17-percent). The Little Giants did improve their free throw shooting, hitting 63-percent for the game, including 8-11 from the stripe in the second half.

Wabash trailed by ten points in the first seven minutes of the game, but trimmed the DePauw advantage to just four points on a layup by Zeljko Gavranovic (Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina/St. Marys, AZ) (left) with 7:17 left in the opening period. But the Tigers pushed the lead back up to 13 points with less than a minute to play before free throws by Kyle Coffey (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) (right) made it a 32-21 game at the half.

Wabash would cut into the DePauw lead at the start of the second half, reducing it to seven after a jumper by Matt Storm (Anderson, IN/Lapel) and free throws by Alex Rinks (Indianapolis, IN/Beech Grove). But DePauw quickly pushed it back to 16 before eventually putting it out of reach with 3:15 left in the game with a 20-point edge.

The Little Giants were led by the nine-point effort of sophomore guard Adonis Joseph (Mishawaka, IN/Mishawaka) (left). Storm added eight points, and Kyle Medeiros (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) scored seven.

Wabash falls to 1-5 with the loss. The Little Giants will open play in the North Coast Athletic Conference on Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest against Kenyon College at Chadwick Court.
