Balanced Attack Gives Wabash a 3-0 Conference Mark with Win over Hiram

Twelve Little Giant players scored in Wabash’s 80-64 victory over the Hiram Terriers on Saturday afternoon to boost the Little Giants to a 3-0 record in North Coast Athletic Conference play and 5-6 overall.

Wabash shot 47-percent from the field, connecting on 30-of-63 attempts to earn its second consecutive victory at home and stay atop the NCAC leaderboard. The Little Giants also picked up 13 steals and dished out 14 assists in the game. Senior guard Matt Storm (Anderson, IN/Lapel) had 14 points, a game-high five steals, and two assists for Wabash. Sophomore Adonis Joseph (Mishawaka, IN/Mishawaka) paced the Wabash offensive attack with 16 points. Sophomore Kyle Coffey (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) added 10 points.

Wabash jumped out to a five-point lead after trading baskets with the Terriers over the first seven minutes of the game. The Little Giants took a 13-point lead into the locker room at the break after Wes Koch (Winchester, IN/Winchester) tipped in a missed Storm shot just ahead of the first half buzzer to give Wabash a 41-28 edge at the break.

For the second night in a row, the Little Giants had to overcome a scoring drought. Wabash came out in the second half and saw Hiram cut the lead to eight points before a layup by Caleb Lyttle (Sullivan, IN/Sullivan) ended a four-minute scoreless streak for the Little Giants. Wabash pushed the lead up to 17 points to take control of the game. The Terriers cut the lead to nine on two different occasions late in the second half, but Wabash held on for the win.

Sophomore guard Kyle Medeiros (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) had nine points for Wabash. Koch added eight points, as did fellow freshman Matt Shook (Kendallville, IN/East Noble).

Koch grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds to lead a Wabash team that snagged 43 total boards in the contest. Coffey had eight boards.

The Little Giants will play a non-conference contest against Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday night. Tipoff in Bloomington, Illinois is set for 8:30 p.m. Eastern time.
