Early Shutout, Second Chances Give Wabash a 4-0 Conference Mark

Wabash held Oberlin scoreless over the first five minutes of the game en route to a 73-56 win over the Yeomen to remain undefeated in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Little Giants took a 9-0 lead at the start of the contest on baskets by Wes Koch (Winchester, IN/Winchester) and Matt Storm (Anderson, IN/Lapel). Koch opened the game with a basket, followed by seven consecutive points by Storm, who canned a three pointer to give the Little Giants the 9-0 advantage. Wabash never let the Yeomen get back into the game, pushing the lead to 17 at halftime, matching its biggest lead of the game.

Wabash took advantage of its rebound opportunities throughout the game. The Little Giants finished the contest with 41 rebounds, compared to 27 for Oberlin. Wabash scored 18 second-chance points to only five for Oberlin. Wabash added to its 36-19 lead in the second half when Koch opened the contest with a layup to make it a 19-point game. The Little Giants were up by as many as 23 points midway through the second stanza before settling for the 17-point victory.

Koch led the Little Giants with a career-best 12 points. Storm and Kyle Coffey (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) each added nine points. Kyle Medeiros (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) had eight points coming off of the Wabash bench. The Little Giant reserves totaled 39 of Wabash’s 73 points.

The Little Giants remain at the top of the NCAC standings, along with Wittenberg and Wooster. Wabash will be at home against the Wittenberg Tigers, 4-0 in conference play after a 74-29 victory over Denison on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Chadwick Court.
