Craig Haupert (Ceder Lake, IN/Lowell) led a solid effort by the Little Giant swim team over the weekend as Wabash finished second to Washington University of St. Louis at the DePawu Swimming Invitational.
The freshman swam a personal best time of 58.19 in the 100-yard breaststroke, good enough to meet the NCAA "B" cut qualifying time. Haupert and teammates Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), R.J. Morgan (Indianapolis, IN/North Central), and Ben Long (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) combined to break the meet record in the in the 200-yard medley relay finals. The four combined for a second-place finish with a season-best time of 1:37.53, beating the old record of 1:37.59.
The Little Giants took second and third in the 200 individual medley as Jon-Myckle Price (Logansport, IN/Logansport) took second place with a time of 2:00.89, finishing just ahead of teammate Dean Fox (Aurora, IN/South Dearborn) who took third (2:02.82). Price also took third place in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. He finished the 100 breastroke in 1:00.78 and the 200 in 2:11.69. Fox added a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.32.
The Wabash relay teams had third-place finishes in the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 400 medley, and 800 freestyle relays in addition to the second in the 200 medley.
The Little Giants will swim against the University of Indianapolis this Saturday before travelling to Florida for their annual winter training.
