Wabash fell short in the team point totals on Wednesday night to DePauw despite outstanding individual performances from seniors Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) and junior Ben Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove). The Little Giants lost the dual meet to the Tigers by a final score of 132-105.
Findley (left) took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching for the final time in10:27.91. Teammate Brad Williams (Columbus, IN/Columbus North) was second (10:42.78), giving the Little Giants the early lead in the meet. Findley added another first place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:04.48), then made it a hat trick with a first place finish in the 500 free (5:02.67).
Hewitt picked up an individual victory in the 200-yard breaststroke, nearly reaching a lifetime best time by finishing in 2:11.91. He added a second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.01) and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team of Matt Perkins (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), Kyle Weaver (Portland, IN/Jay County), and Jeddah Weggerhoff (Avon, IN/Avon). The quartet won the race with a time of 3:43.46.
Perkins took second in the 200 backstroke (1:57.71). Steve Birrer (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) finished second in the 200 free (1:49.90), as did Colin Fahey (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) in the 50 free (22.84). Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) was third in the 50 free (23.32).
The Little Giants return to the water on Saturday, January 17 at Washington University of St. Louis. The meet begins at 2 p.m. (CST).
