Tankers Drop 116-89 Meet in St. Louis

The Wabash swimming and diving team lost 116-89 to Washington University (St. Louis) on Saturday afternoon.

Wabash dropped the dual meet to the Bears despite an outstanding start and finish to the meet. The 200-yard medley relay team of Matt Perkins (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), Colin Fahey (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Kyle Weaver (Portland, IN/Jay County), and Stephen Birrer (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) finished the race in 1:40.43 to take first place in the opening event. The Little Giants also grabbed third place in the race with the team of Brad Williams (Columbus, IN/Columbus North), Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community), Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and Tony Caldwell (Washington, IA/Washington) touching in 1:44.10.

Caldwell also added an individual first place finish, touching first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.61. He also combined with Jeddah Wegerhoff (Avon, IN/Avon), Andrew Roy (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville), and Chris Bly (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North) for fourth in the final relay race of the day, the 200-yard free, with a time of 1:37.50. Perkins, Birrer, Weaver, and Peacock won the event with a time of 1:29.93.

Junior Ben Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) grabbed top finishes in the 400 individual medley (4:21.22) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.24). He also added a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.13).

Findley was third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.22. He also took third in the 1000 free, finishing in 10:25.21. Fahey was the top finisher for the Little Giants in the 50 free, taking third place after touching out in 22.82.

Perkins and Birrer added second and third places to the Wabash totals in the 100 freestyle. Perkins finished with a time of 49.71, while Birrer was just behind with a time of 49.96.
