Schroeder Takes First At Little State Tournament

Senior Mike Schroeder (Evansville, IN/Mater Dei) went into the 39th Little State Wrestling Tournament as the favorite at 184-pounds. The Little Giant grappler did not disappoint the experts.

Schroeder went 4-0 for the weekend, defeating second-seeded Chris Bonati of Mount St. Joseph 7-0 in the championship bout. He recorded one pin in the tournament, a second round victory against Mason Winebarger of Knox College. Schroeder pinned Winebarger with 39-seconds left in the match.

Scott Brannon (Lake Station, IN/Lake Station) advanced to the second day of the tournament for Wabash at 149-pounds before losing in his first two matches on Saturday. Brannon won his first match by technical fall on Friday, followed by a 8-2 win by decision in his final match on Friday.

A total of 17 teams and over 230 wrestlers participated in the two-day event held at Chadwick Court. No team score is kept in the open tournament format.
