Bertsch ’26 Wins National Fraternity Award

The Theta Delta Chi chapter at Wabash College earned a slew of nationwide honors at the organization’s convention Aug. 1-3 in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The Upsilon Deuteron chapter earned the Victory Cup, which is presented annually to the top chapter. Further, house president Carter Bertsch ’26 was named top undergraduate of the year.

Carter Bertsch ’26The emotions I felt that weekend were unforgettable,” said Bertsch. “I have grown a lot, and credit goes to my brothers for pushing me to be the best version of myself. Serving as our charge’s president has helped me develop problem solving skills, de-escalation practices, teamwork, facilitation skills, and critical thinking. Most importantly, I have gained lifelong friendships with my brothers.”

Bertsch, a biology major and Global Health minor from New Castle, Indiana, is a new-student orientation mentor, performs with the Wabash Jazz and Pep Bands, and is a member of the Global Health Initiative and pre-health organization.

Bertsch also earned the Porter Scholarship, given to a candidate excelling in chemistry or other science, and was elected to serve on Theta Delta Chi’s Grand Lodge, the fraternity’s executive board.

He has plans of working in medical administration following graduation.

“Carter is a true leader and scholar, symbolic of our College's mission to think critically inside and outside of the TDX members celebrate with the Victory Cup.classroom,” said Marc Welch, associate dean of students. “He is a leader committed to continuous improvements for himself, his fraternity, and its members. Wabash College and Theta Delta Chi are certainly better for Carter and his leadership.”

Three other Theta Delta Chi members received scholarships at the convention. Braden Potters ’26 earned a Davenport Family Foundation scholarship, which is given annually to juniors or seniors who have a 3.0 grade point average, are involved in extracurriculars on campus, and excel in service to the fraternity. Andrew Dever ’25 and Carson Wirtz ’26 were awarded general scholarships.
