Wabash College is pleased to invite you to attend two President’s Distinguished Speaker Series events in the coming weeks.
On Monday, Sept. 30, Wabash will welcome Dr. Richard Gunderman ’83 for his talk, “You Contain Multitudes,” and two weeks later on Oct. 14, Dr. Robert Einterz ’77 will talk about his career in global health with “Personal Reflections on Civility and Community.”
Both talks will begin at 8 p.m. in Salter Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center and will last about an hour. The community is cordially invited to attend.
Both doctors are exceptional examples of Wabash alumni living out the College’s mission – in their professional achievements, commitment to teaching, and unwavering efforts to build and sustain communities on a truly global scale. At a time when much divides our nation, Drs. Gunderman and Einterz have spent their careers bringing people together.
Dr. Gunderman is Chancellor’s Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy, and Medical Humanities and Health Studies at Indiana University. He is also John A. Campbell Professor of Radiology and in 2019-21 served as Bicentennial Professor.
Dr. Gunderman is a 10-time recipient of the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award and has received honorary degrees from Northwestern and Wabash. He has written over 950 articles and 15 books, including “We Make a Life by What We Give (2008),” “X-ray Vision (2013),” “We Come to Life with Those We Serve (2017),” “Tesla (2019),” and “Contagion (2021).”
Dr. Einterz is the Donald E. Brown Professor Emeritus of Global Health and Clinical Professor Emeritus at the Indiana University School of Medicine. His work has been pivotal in creating the largest HIV/AIDS care program in Kenya, AMPATH, which began as a partnership between the IU School of Medicine and Moi University in Kenya, and was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Einterz has been honored with the Indiana University President’s Medal for Excellence, the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, and the John W. Ryan Award for Distinguished Contributions to International Programs and Studies.
The President’s Distinguished Speaker Series is generously funded by Wabash’s alumni and friends, and provides thought-provoking events free of charge.
